BD's poultry industry have ability to improve production & supply of quality protein: BD needs a socio-economic model of healthy living
Agrilife24.com,desk:Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday said Bangladesh's poultry industry has the ability to improve both the demand and supply sides of quality nutrition in order to make a healthy nation.
Since the economy is growing at higher pace over the last one decade, they also suggested to go for accelerating research, and high quality production with proper bio-security measures. The speakers have also seen some challenges here including the innovation, international business model and cost of productions.
Hundreds of poultry industrialists, scientists, researchers, and nutritionists from home and abroad were speaking at the two-day 11th International Poultry Seminar, begun in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The World's Poultry Science Association-Bangladesh Branch (WPSA-BB) organized the international seminar at the Le Meridien Hotel in Dhaka. Local and international experts presented papers on different issues on poultry science and industry at the seminar. Total 99 scientific papers to be presented in the two-day seminar. Poultry scientists and experts from 15 countries are participating in the International seminar.
At the inaugural session, WPSA-BB President Shamsul Arefin Khaled said the nutritious food is the most important factor for physical and mental growth. Since Bangladesh is heading towards a developing nation by 2024, it needs to ensure sustainable and equitable food security for a healthy and equitable nation. "Bangladesh needs a socio-economic model of healthy living," Mr Khaled added. He believed that the country's poultry industry has the unique ability to improve both the demand and supply sides of quality nutrition. Mr. Khaled said that improvement of rural economy is vital for improving the national economy. "If we want a vibrant rural economy we must concentrate on the progress of poultry industry".
Prof. Dr. Ning Yang, President of WPSA global chapter said Bangladesh has a remarkable progress in poultry industrial production. It has the capacity to supply quality protein.
General Secretary of the WPSA-BB Md. Mahabub Hassan welcomed the national and international guests for participating at the international seminar.
At the plenary session-I, General Secretary, WPSA, Mr. Roel Mulder presented the paper on "World’s Poultry Science Association: today and tomorrow" and Mr. G.L. Jain of the Venkatesshwara Research and Breeding Farms PVT. LTD, India, presented another paper on "Breeding strategies for broilers and layers under shifting paradigms". At the plenary session-II, Mr Frank Siewerdt, of the Cobb-Vantress, Inc., USA presented a paper on "Genetic improvement of broiler chickens: a success story of efficiency and sustainability." Besides, Milind Limaye of the CevaPolchem Private Ltd., India, presented paper on" Water quality management: mitigate the risk!", Mr. O.P. Singh of the Huvepharma SEA (Pune) Pvt. Ltd., India, presented paper on "Emergence of Asian food basket – opportunities & challenges" and both Mr Shariful Islam and Mr Saiful Islam of the Bangladesh Brand Forum and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council respectively presented paper on "Poultry Sector Branding Strategy and Road Map 2024" at the seminar.
In the plenary session M.Giasuddin, J.A. Begum, M.M. Rahman, E.P. Calvo, Mr A. Junsey, A.C. Mazumder, M.T. Islam, Mr. D. Sapcota, P. Krishnan, K. Palaniyandi and V.M. Shelke, and others presented their scientific papers.
In the second day on March 6, the international poultry seminar 2019 will be presented four papers by national and international poultry experts and scientists.
After completing the 2-day Seminar, a three-day International Poultry Show at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka from March 7-9.
