SAU celebrates World Egg Day “The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition”

Staff correspondent: World Egg Day 2025 was observed today at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) with vibrant participation and enthusiasm to promote the consumption of eggs for better nutrition and public health. The event aimed to create awareness about the nutritional value of eggs and encourage people to include at least one egg in their daily diet.

The day’s program began at 10:00 am in front of the M. Mohbub Uzzaman Academic Building with a colorful rally followed by a discussion session at Community Hall-2 of the TSC Complex.

Chief Guest of the program, Prof. Dr. Masuma Habib, Member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, said in her speech, “Eggs are a complete food enriched with essential nutrients required for physical and cognitive development. To build a healthy and smart nation, we must inspire people of all ages to consume eggs regularly. Policymakers, scientists, and private sector entrepreneurs must work together to further strengthen the egg industry in Bangladesh.”

Chief Patron of the event, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, Vice-Chancellor of SAU, said, “To combat malnutrition and ensure public health, we must remove misconceptions regarding egg consumption. Eggs are safe, nutritious, and affordable. Public awareness must be increased so that every family considers eggs a part of their daily meals.” He thanked the Department of Poultry Science for organizing the program.
Presiding over the event, Prof. Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine at SAU, said, “Eggs play a crucial role in achieving national nutrition targets. We must spread the message ‘The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition’ to every corner of society.”

Dr. Sonia Tabassum Ahmed delivered the welcome speech at the event, expressing her heartfelt greetings and gratitude to the distinguished guests.

In her keynote address, Dr. Maksuda Begum, Chairman of the Department of Poultry Science, highlighted the importance of eggs in improving national nutrition. She said, “Eggs can significantly contribute to eliminating protein deficiency and child malnutrition in Bangladesh. They are one of the most affordable and complete sources of nutrition.”

Distinguished guests Prof. Dr. Md. Elias Hossain, Publicity and Publication Secretary of WPSA-BB and Mr Abdur Rhamna EC member of WPSA-BB, emphasized the role of modern technology and collaborative research in ensuring sustainable egg production and food security in Bangladesh.

Special guests Prof. Dr. Mohammad Lutfur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU); Prof. Dr. Md. Belal Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor of SAU and Prof. Md. Abul Bashar, Treasurer of SAU, highlighted the role of youth entrepreneurship in strengthening the poultry industry and contributing to the national economy.

Guest of Honor Mohammad Fayzur Rahman, General Secretary of WPSA-BB, praised the growing potential of Bangladesh’s poultry sector. He said, “Bangladesh has achieved remarkable progress in egg production. However, to reach the target of one egg per person per day, we must strengthen mass awareness and link production with nutrition education.”

Students, teachers, researchers, and professionals from various disciplines participated in the program. The event ended with a collective pledge to promote egg consumption nationwide and support sustainable poultry development in Bangladesh.
