
Agrilife24.com: A high-level seminar titled “NDSU Oilseed Breeding: Harnessing Innovation and Collaborative Strategies” was held today at the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (IBGE) of Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU). The keynote speaker was the world-renowned canola breeder, Dr. Mukhlesur Rahman, Professor of Oilseed Breeding in the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU), USA.
The seminar was hosted by Professor Dr. Md. Tofazzal Islam, the Founding Director of IBGE, GAU, and Chaired by IBGE’s Director Professor Shah Mohammad Naimul Islam. The event drew a distinguished audience of over 50 participants, including university Deans, Directors, faculty members, researchers, and students.
In his keynote presentation, Professor Rahman highlighted modern techniques in oilseed breeding, focusing on innovative methods for canola cultivation and the critical importance of international collaborative strategies. He shared insights into the cutting-edge research conducted at North Dakota State University and discussed the vital role of high-yielding oilseeds in ensuring global food security. The presentation was followed by a vibrant interactive session where faculty and researchers engaged with the speaker on technical advancements in the field.
This visit marks a continuation of a long-standing academic relationship; Professor Rahman previously delivered a seminar at GAU in April 2015. Furthermore, Professor Tofazzal Islam undertook a reciprocal visit to NDSU in 2018 as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar, which significantly strengthened the bilateral ties and scientific exchange between the two institutions.
Professor Rahman is an internationally acclaimed scientist with over 5,280 citations and numerous publications in prestigious high-impact journals. His visit is expected to open new horizons for cooperation in agricultural research and higher education between Bangladesh and the United States.
