MoU signed between Solidaridad Network Asia and Supreme Seed

For Making Soybean Farming More Productive
agribusiness desk:Solidaridad and Supreme Seed Company Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently for quality soybean seed multification and commercialization. Mr.Mohammed Masum,Chairman Supreme Seed Company Limited and Selim Reza Hasan Country Manager, solidaridad signed the MOU. Under this collaboration, solidaridad and Supreme Seed Company Limited would develop business clusters for better accesability of quality soybean seed varieties among the farmers. An entreprenership model of forward and backward market linkages would developed through public–private- partnership.

During the signing ceremony, Solidaridad Country Manager informed that taking into consideration of the high potentiality of Soybean, Solidaridad is undertaking a market based approach for improving productivity to improve seed variety, good farm management, access to inputs and services including mechanization and effective business linkages with the among farmers and soybean industries.

Through a public-private collaboration Solidaridad is undertaking followings strategic approaches:
•Improve seed production capacity of suitable verities in the country through the engagement of public and private sector;
•Provide training to the farmers on the agronomic techniques for producing soybean;
•Behavior change communication for knowledge building for soybean use in human and animal nutrition;
•Private sector engagement for soy product diversification and market promotion.

To improve the seed variety and the overall productivity of soybean, Solidaridad has established collaboration with BARI, BINA, BAU, BSMRAU and established field trials to oversee the performance of different varieties. Solidridad is developing the partnership with Supreme Seed to make available of commercial high quality seed in the market. It is expected that by 2020, a total of 228 metric tons of commercial quality soybean seed would be available in the market that will increase the productivity of 25,000 soybean farmers  to produce  6514 metric tons of soybean grain in the districts of Noakhali and Laksmipur.

Solidaridad supported by the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is implementing the SaFaL-2 programme that would improve the productivity of 100,000 farm households towards improving the food and nutrition security of 500,000 people. A total of 25,000 Soybean farming families would be covered in the districts of Noakhali and Lakshmipur.

The Chairman Supreme Seed Company Limited highlighted that this MoU will help the farmers to get quality seed of soybean of improve varieties in time as per their requirements that ensured by the supreme seed company. He also added that this MoU will greatly help the farmers to improve productivity of soybean per unit area by increasing the yield. As a result a sustainable grain market will be develop and the dependency of grain import will be reduced.
