BAU Correspondent:Professor Dr Md Bahanur Rahman, dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has been nominated as the new president of the Bangladesh Veterinary Council (BVC).
He will serve as the president for four years. During his tenure, he will lead key activities of the council, including maintaining the quality of veterinary education in the country and issuing registration certificates to veterinarians.
Prof Dr Md Bahanur Rahman confirmed the matter on Wednesday (September 9).
Prof Bahanur Rahman said the Bangladesh Veterinary Council is a very important institution for ensuring proper veterinary services and improving the livestock sector in the country. Besides producing competent veterinarians and ensuring their proper registration are particularly important for combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and implementing the One Health approach.
He said after taking charge, I want to give priority to these issues. At the same time, initiatives will be taken to formulate a uniform curriculum for veterinary education across the country, strengthen monitoring of academic activities and ensure the participation of all relevant stakeholders.
He further said he would focus on making the councils activities more effective in improving the quality of veterinary education and the profession as well as developing the livestock sector and protecting public health.
