Md. Abul Bashar:The Youth-Led Climate Award 2026, under the theme “Spark the Change, Lead the Climate Future”, was held today (15 September 2026) at the Liberation War Museum in Agargaon, Dhaka, bringing together government representatives, development practitioners, youth leaders and civil society organisations to recognise youth leadership in climate action.

Organized by VSO Bangladesh, the programme recognized 10 newly selected youth-led organizations that will receive grant support to implement locally designed climate initiatives addressing community-specific challenges. The initiatives aim to strengthen climate resilience, promote sustainable development and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Asadul Habib Dulu, MP, Hon’ble Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, attended the programme as Chief Guest and presented awards to the selected organizations. His participation highlighted the importance of youth and community-led action in strengthening Bangladesh’s climate preparedness and resilience.

The event was attended by Dr. Abul Hossain, Former Secretary, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Chair of the VDF Advisory Committee; Dr. Shaikh Mohammad Jobayed Hossain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports; A S M Marjan Nur, Climate and Environment Adviser, British High Commission in Dhaka; Dr. Md. Golam Mahboob, Director, SAARC Agriculture Centre; Talha Jamal, Country Director, Islamic Relief Bangladesh; and Md. Masum Ahmed, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The programme also recognized previous award winners for their community-level climate initiatives and acknowledged the contribution of the judging panel.

The Youth-Led Climate Award reflects VSO Bangladesh’s commitment to locally led development, youth leadership and volunteering for development, supporting young people as leaders and decision-makers in Bangladesh’s climate action agenda.
