A workshop on 'Lifestyle and Dietary Modification for Sedentary Officials' was held in Dhaka

Staff Correspondent: A workshop on 'Lifestyle and Dietary Modification for Sedentary Officials' was held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Auditorium, organized by Nutrition Unit, BARC. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Director, Nutrition Unit, BARC chaired the session. Mr. Ajit Kumar Chakraborty, Member Director (Fisheries), BARC was present as special guest.

The keynote paper was addressed by Dr. Qamrunnahar, Principal Research Officer, and Co-ordinator Clinical Nutrition and dietic training program, BIRDEM hospital. Dr. Qamrunnahar said that, "Since our independence, there have been significant nutritional gaps among the population in our country. It is essential that we consume a balanced diet with nutrients sourced from local fruits and vegetables."

The technical session was chaired by Mr. Anil Kumar Das, National Consultant (Program), FAO. Two presenters shared their insights and technical notes. Tapati Saha, Coordinator of Dietary and Patient Nutrition Services at Square Hospitals, said that ' we should incorporate fiber and minerals properly into our daily diets. She also underscored the benefits of consuming omega-3-rich foods for maintaining blood pressure and cardiac health issues.

Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Director, nutrition Unit delivered his speech on everyday strategies to support immune health through nutrition and lifestyle choices. He emphasized the importance of consuming safe, nutrient-rich foods to maintain a robust immune system and stressed the need for effective stress management to support a healthy lifestyle.

The program was attended by 88 participants from various sectors, including government officials, researchers, public health officers, doctors, veterinarians, and many others.
