The Role of Courageous Journalism in Safeguarding Democracy and the Environment is Essential
Agrilife desk: Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, emphasized that fearless and impartial journalism is crucial for the protection of democracy and the environment. She stated that the government is committed to ensuring a supportive environment for responsible journalism. A Media Commission has been established to enable journalists to work objectively, ensuring public benefit.
This statement was made during her speech at the ‘Desh TV-DRU Best Reporting Award 2024’ ceremony held this evening at the Dhaka Club.
She further added that journalists must bring national news from across the country, with in-depth coverage on environmental issues and matters of public interest. She stressed that truthfulness and accountability in journalism are powerful forces for social change. Bold and unbiased reporting is instrumental in steering the nation in the right direction.
The event was attended by Chief guest Asif Nazrul, Advisor for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, alongside DRU President Shukur Ali Shuvo, General Secretary Mohiuddin, and other senior media leaders.
Award winners from print, online, television, and radio categories were announced. Among the winners: Open Category: Abu Saleh Roni; Print Media: 1st Prize - Mahmudul Hasan (Noyon), 2nd Prize - Ahsan Habib Rasel, and 3rd Prize (Jointly) - Jasim Uddin Harun and Farhan Ferdous; Electronic Media: 1st Prize - Muhammad Arafatul Momen Aditya Arafat, 2nd Prize - Masud Mostahid, and 3rd Prize - Parvez Nadir Reza; Online Media: 1st Prize - Yasir Arafat Ripon, 2nd Prize - Md. Zobayer Hossain (Arafat Zobayer), and 3rd Prize - Md. Touhiduzzaman Tanmoy.
