
Agrilife24.com:The Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS), in collaboration with BRAC AI Enterprise, Power Agro Ltd., and Rotary Club of Rajshahi Central, organized World Veterinary Day 2026 in Hujripada, Paba, Rajshahi. The event was held under the theme “Veterinarian: Guardian of Food and Health” and the slogan “Safe Food, Strong Earth – Veterinarian is Everyone’s Companion.”
This year’s theme, declared by the World Veterinary Association, highlights the critical role veterinarians play in safeguarding food safety, food security, public health, and animal health worldwide.
A free veterinary camp was held where nearly 240 cows and goats received free medical check-ups and medicines. The services were provided by BRAC AI Enterprise and Tuli Enterprise.
Key Speakers and Their Messages: Rotarian Prof. Dr. Md. Jalal Uddin Sardar (President, BLS) emphasized that veterinarians work across the entire food chain, “from farm to fork.” He stated that veterinarians ensure food of animal origin is safe, nutritious, and responsibly produced while supporting farmers and protecting animal welfare. Rotarian Dr. Md. Hemayatul Islam Arif (General Secretary, BLS) discussed the human-animal bond and the importance of animal health for human well-being. He cited research showing that close pet relationships improve human health, leading to fewer health issues and better mental health.
Dr. Al Helal Mondal (Veterinary Surgeon, BRAC AI Enterprise) shared insights on the collaboration between BLS and organizations like BRAC, noting that livestock health is essential for ensuring safe food and a healthy planet. Selina Begum (Local Social Worker) & Md. Akhtarul Islam (BRAC and Tuli Enterprise) discussed the role of veterinarians in raising awareness among women and marginal farmers. Selina Begum extended a special invitation to all organizations and farmers to participate in the “6th BLS Award, Seminar & Livestock-Poultry Fair 2026” to be held on 14 November 2026 at the Rajshahi University Senate Building.
The speakers emphasized that livestock health is the foundation of human health and called for a collective, coordinated effort in this regard.
Attendees included local farmers, housewives, livestock keepers, students, and media personnel.
