Staff Reporter, Dhaka: To ensure better health and productivity of livestock, a three-day international hoof trimming training workshop is underway in Kallyanpur, Dhaka. The workshop is organized by the Bangladesh Dairy and Fattening Farmers Association (DFFA) and sponsored by ACI Animal Genetics. Renowned Dutch dairy expert Mr. Herman Midema, from PUM-Netherlands, is conducting the training sessions.

The second day of the workshop concluded today, April 14, and the program will wrap up tomorrow, April 15. Held daily from 10 AM at City Farmer (adjacent to BSH Hospital), the training has brought together around 40 dairy farmers from various districts across the country.

On the second day, participants received direct, hands-on training in hoof trimming techniques. Alongside practical demonstrations, they are also learning in-depth about common hoof-related issues, preventative care, maintenance practices, and advanced breeding techniques.

DFFA General Secretary Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Bhuttu stated, “Such international training initiatives are crucial for enhancing the professional skills of our country’s dairy farmers. Participants will receive certificates upon completion of the training.”

Workshop host Ameer Hamza Shatil said that proper technical knowledge is essential for managing any farm. In this context, today’s training will be highly beneficial for dairy farmers across the country.

S.M. Asiful Islam, Organizing Secretary of the Bangladesh Dairy and Fattening Farmers Association (DFFA), said that although the training is being held in the capital, participants are joining from different parts of the country, which is a positive sign.

Farmers attending the workshop expressed that the practical knowledge gained is helping them adopt better livestock care practices and improve farm productivity. Organizers hope that such initiatives will play an important role in modernizing and advancing the country’s dairy industry.
