Agrilife24.com:Biochem marked its 40th anniversary in Germany, highlighting its global growth and commitment to sustainability. Operating in more than 90 countries, the company showcased its innovative feed solutions and integrated approach to animal nutrition.
Biochem, a company developing feed additives and nutrition solutions for the animal feed industry, celebrated its 40th anniversary with events held in Lohne, Germany. The company reflected on four decades of global growth, science-based innovation, and a strong focus on sustainability.
Founded in 1986 by Eckhard Thölke in Lohne, Germany, Biochem began as a regional agricultural support provider and has since grown into an international organization operating in more than 90 countries. With a team of approximately 400 experts, the company has strengthened its position in the global market by delivering integrated animal nutrition solutions.
Biochem’s growth trajectory has been marked by significant investments in logistics and production infrastructure. The establishment of a modern logistics center in 2009, followed by facility investments in 2015, 2022, and 2025, has continuously increased the company’s production capacity. In 2025, Biochem further reinforced its expertise in organic trace minerals by acquiring BASF’s glycinate business.
“WE RELY ON SCIENCE-BACKED CONCEPTS”
At the anniversary events, Biochem reaffirmed its core philosophy: “Feed Safety for Food Safety®”. Dr. Alexander Grafe, CEO of Biochem, elaborated on how this philosophy translates into practice: “Since 1986, we have relied on science-backed concepts that unite environmental responsibility and economic performance. Under the ‘Feed Safety for Food Safety®’ philosophy, we develop feeding solutions that conserve resources and reduce emissions directly at the source—the feed itself. By combining scientific expertise with practical experience, we provide the best possible support to our partners worldwide. Looking ahead, we remain committed to delivering integrated solutions that meet the evolving sustainability and animal welfare needs of the global livestock and pet food sectors.”
The company continues to position feed safety as an inseparable component of food safety, with all product development processes carried out in Germany to the highest quality standards.
Biochem focuses on critical areas of animal nutrition including gut health, feed efficiency, performance optimization, immune support, and life-stage management. Solutions for ruminants, poultry, aquaculture, and companion animals are backed by a broad product portfolio encompassing probiotics, organic acids, enzymes, mycotoxin binders, and organic trace minerals.
The company also draws attention with its species-specific programs for poultry and dairy cattle, developing applications for critical processes such as early-stage chick development and transition period management in dairy cows. These approaches are said to contribute to improved performance, more efficient resource utilization, and sustainable production goals.
Biochem’s management noted that the company’s 40-year success stems from the combination of scientific approach, an integrated product portfolio, and practical field solutions, and underlined their commitment to continuing to develop innovative solutions for sustainable livestock production and animal welfare.
