Mohammad Riaz, BAU: Professor Dr. Ibrahim Shehu Jega, an alumnus who earned his PhD from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA) in Nigeria.
Dr. Ibrahim shared the news of his success on Tuesday (May 19) with Dr. Muhammad Mahfuzul Haque, a professor in the Department of Aquaculture at BAU's Faculty of Fisheries.
According to campus sources, Ibrahim Shehu Jega enrolled in a PhD research program under the Department of Fisheries Management at BAU in 2015, under the supervision of former professor Dr. Md. Idris Miah. Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahfuzul Haque of the Department of Aquaculture served as his co-supervisor. After successfully completing his PhD in 2018, Dr. Ibrahim returned to Nigeria and rejoined his workplace at the university.
Expressing his delight, Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahfuzul Haque said, "Dr. Ibrahim's success brings us immense joy. He reached out to share the news and expressed his deep gratitude toward BAU. Many international students regularly contact our university for PhD and other higher education opportunities. However, ensuring quality higher education and proper research supervision for international students requires adequate funding in scholarships and research sectors."
He further added, "We hope that the research and infrastructural capacities of our universities will expand in the near future, offering broader higher education opportunities for international students. This will significantly boost the global impact and international reputation of the university, firmly establishing its prestige worldwide."
