Agrilife24.com: Recently Rotary Club of Rajshahi Central observed World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) will now be World AMR Awareness Week-2023 was observed at RU Narikelbaria campus from 18 to 24 November-2023. BRAC AISP participant participated the awareness program.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents a major global threat across human, animal, plant, food, and environmental sectors. We know that in 2019, it was estimated that almost 5 million deaths were associated with bacterial AMR, including 1.27 million deaths being directly caused by it. Addressing AMR requires a holistic and multi-sectorial approach referred to as a One Health approach and Bangladesh already included this program. In 2015, countries adopted a Global Action Plan on AMR. Its first objective is improving awareness and understanding of AMR through effective communication, education, and training. Organizing a global annual awareness campaign was identified as an activity to contribute to this objective. Thus, an annual campaign was established to raise global awareness and understanding on AMR, while serving as an important example of One Health collaboration. This campaign was known as World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW).
Rotary Club Rajshahi Central president Rotarian Dr. Md. Hemayatul Islam Arif conducted a seminar about antimicrobial awareness. He said his presentation that on microbes, its nature, use of antibiotic, mal practice of antibiotics and fate. The participants asked who is responsible for that cause and how can us overcome from the problems. Dr. Arif said that only the awareness and consensus of the society that is stakeholders like prescribers, chemist, livestock-poultry farmers as well as consumers.
