Agrilife24.com: In a major stride toward self-sufficiency and genetic excellence in the country's fisheries sector, Eon Aquaculture Limited, a sister concern of the Eon Group of Industries, has officially inaugurated and expanded its second Tilapia Breeding Nucleus (TBN) at Nandigram, Bogura.

This state-of-the-art facility is strategically positioned to revolutionize the aquaculture landscape across the northern and southern regions of Bangladesh. By next year (2027), the facility aims to scale up operations significantly to fulfill the skyrocketing local demand for high-quality genetically improved tilapia broodstock, ensuring a reliable supply chain for regional fish farmers.

Eon Aquaculture Limited stands out as a premier center of excellence, operating as the only entity in the country to maintain a scientific TBN of the latest Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) strain under a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WorldFish, Malaysia. The first TBN has been established last year (2025) by introducing  WorldFish’s latest GIFT Generation 19. The newly established Bogura TBN utilizes the premium "Eon Gen - 01" germplasm, which is directly derived from WorldFish’s cutting-edge 19th GIFT Generation.

The official inauguration ceremony, held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 was attended by top leadership and industry experts, including Momin Ud Dowlah (Chairman and Managing Director of Eon Aquaculture Limited), Dr. Mohammad Gulam Hussain (Chief Aquaculture Advisor to Eon and former Director General of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute) and Mr. Zillur Rahman (Proprietor of Genetic Aqua and Breeders), alongside other senior officials.

In alignment with this expansion, EON Aquaculture Ltd. has also released its official technical specifications for the 2026 batch of GIFT germplasm fry (Oreochromis niloticus). Produced as EON 1st Generation from the 19th Generation WorldFish broodstock, these high-quality fry are meticulously graded at 4,000 to 5,000 pieces per kilogram. To ensure better yield performance, high survival rates and robust farm biosecurity, all imported fry are fully vaccinated and produced by generations of family selection for superior growth performance and enhanced feed conversion efficiency compared to conventional (non selected) Nile tilapia strain. While the new TBN strengthens operations in the north, Eon continues its intensive commercial hatchery operations based in Subarnachar, Noakhali, cementing its role as a vital contributor to the nation's food security and intensive aquaculture systems in the country.”
