BRRI Holds Inception Workshop on Heat Tolerance and AG Priority of Rice Projects

Agrilife24.com:The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), in collaboration with the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Cereals of the United States, jointly organized an Inception and Planning Workshop titled "Cereals Lab–BRRI: Heat Tolerance and Anaerobic Germination (AG) Priority of Rice Projects" today (Tuesday, July 14, 2026) at the conference room of the BRRI Training Complex, Gazipur. The workshop was funded by the US Department of State.

BRRI Director (Research) Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam presided over the workshop. Director (Administration and Common Service) Dr. Aminul Islam, H. M. Beachell Rice Chair Professor at Texas A&M University (TAMU) Dr. Michael Thomson and Professor of Rice Genetics and Genomics at TAMU Dr. Endang Septiningsih, were present as special guests.

Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Plant Breeding Division of BRRI Dr. Khandakar Md. Iftekharuddaula delivered the welcome address while Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the BRRI Regional Station, Cumilla Dr. Mohammad Akhlasur Rahman delivered the vote of thanks at the inaugural session. All division heads and the concerned scientists of BRRI participated in the workshop.

During the workshop, presentations were made on the "Cereals Lab–BRRI: Heat Priority Project" and the "Cereals Lab–BRRI: AG Priority Project," highlighting project planning, scope of work, and BRRI's progress. Detailed presentations were also delivered on trait discovery, quantitative trait loci (QTL) discovery, validation, transfer planning, implementation and deployment strategies. Two open discussion sessions on both priority projects were also held at the workshop.
