Mohammad Riaz, BAU:Students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have urged the administration to restore the previous extended schedule of the university’s central library, mentioned difficulties in their academic preparation due to early closing hours.
In a written application submitted to the university’s Student Affairs Adviser on Wednesday (June 10), a group of students, supported by a collective signature campaign and requested the reinstatement of the earlier library schedule.
The students stated that the library currently closes at 5.45 pm which significantly hampers their study, particularly during semester final examinations and class tests.
A postgraduate student said they are required to study more during exam periods, but the early closure of the library disrupts their preparation. Earlier, the library remained open until 8:30pm. We request the authorities to restore that timing
Responding to the demand, Student Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Md Shahidul Haque said the request has been viewed positively by the administration. We always try to ensure that students can pursue their studies without disruption. Earlier, the library hours were reduced mainly due to government instructions and energy constraints. As the situation has now improved, we are considering extending the library hours again while ensuring efficient resource management.
He further added that the librarian has already forwarded the proposal to the administration, and discussions with the Vice-Chancellor are underway to reach a prompt and positive decision.
