Mohammad Riaz, BAU: Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) launched a sapling distribution and tree plantation programme on Sunday, promoted environmental conservation and encourage greening initiatives among teachers and students.
The programme supported by the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, included the distribution of more than 400 saplings and the planting of fruit-bearing trees on the university campus.
As part of the initiative, saplings were distributed among students of Muktijoddha Smriti School near to the university at 8 am. Later, at 11 am, fruit tree saplings were planted in the faculty garden. The programme also featured the inauguration of a first-aid box established by the Faculty Students' Association.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan attended the event as the chief guest. Among others present were Student Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Md Shahidul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology Professor Dr Mohammad Amirul Islam, faculty members from different departments and students of the faculty.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Bhuiyan said the programme was organised in solidarity with the government's nationwide campaign to plant 250 million trees across the country. In support of the Bangladesh government's nationwide tree plantation campaign, we have implemented a special plantation programme at the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. We express our full solidarity with this noble initiative undertaken for the welfare of the nation. We had already conducted tree plantation activities in two to three phases across the campus and planned to continue the campaign on a larger scale in the future.
