Mohammad Riaz, BAU:The Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Thursday organised a memorial meeting in honour of those who were killed during the historic July–August mass uprising.
The programme was held at 5:00 pm at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall on the BAU campus. Teachers, students, political leaders and activists, and people from different walks of life attended the event.
The meeting was chaired by Md Atikur Rahman, president of the BAU unit of JCD. It was conducted by Md Shafiqul Islam, general secretary of the unit, and S M Shoaib, senior joint convener.
Among the special guests were Dr Rafiqul Islam Sardar, president of the BAU Teachers' Association; Dr Ali Reza Faruk, president of the BNP-backed teachers' organisation Sonali Dal; Dr Ahmad Khairul Hasan, general secretary of Sonali Dal; Professor Dr Md Abdul Alim, Proctor of BAU; and Professor Dr Sonia Seheli, Assistant Proctor.
Speakers at the meeting paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the July–August movement, saying their sacrifices should inspire future generations to uphold democracy, justice and equality.
They stressed the importance of building a discrimination-free and accountable state by preserving the ideals for which the martyrs sacrificed their lives.
Addressing the programme, Dr Ahmad Khairul Hasan said education, Unity and Progress should be reflected in the conduct of its members. I want the brightest students in every class to join Chhatra Dal. I want the most talented and capable young men and women in the halls to represent the organisation so that others are inspired by their character, leadership and commitment. Let the organisation move forward with unity and brotherhood.
