BAU Correspondent:A seminar highlighting the importance of extracurricular activities in developing skilled, leadership-oriented and quality graduates was held at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Sunday.
Titled "Extracurricular Activities for Producing Quality Graduates," the seminar was organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at the conference room of the university's Central Library. Members of various student organisations based at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) participated in the programme.
Around 40 undergraduate and postgraduate students from different faculties of the university took part in the seminar.
The programme was chaired by Professor Dr Md Asaduzzaman Sarkar, Director of IQAC, and moderated by Professor Dr Murad Ahmed Faruk, Associate Director of the cell.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan attended the seminar as the chief patron. Special guests included Professor Dr Md Bahanur Rahman, Convener of the Dean's Council, and Professor Dr G M Mujibur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Professor Dr Md Hammadur Rahman, Director of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System (BAURES).
Among the speakers were Professor Dr Md Golam Faruk of the Department of Agricultural Extension Education, Professor Dr Ahmad Khairul Hasan, President of the BAU Debating Society, and Professor Dr Mohammad Saifullah, Associate Student Affairs Adviser.
The seminar concluded with an open discussion involving members of different student organisations.
Addressing the programme, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan said extracurricular activities play a vital role in preparing students to become competent graduates with leadership qualities capable of competing at the international level.
He said in today's highly competitive world, there is no alternative to extracurricular activities in producing skilled, leadership-oriented and quality graduates. Programmes like this help enhance students' skills, confidence and awareness. I believe Bangladesh Agricultural University will continue to move forward by producing more competent and qualified graduates through such initiatives.
