Mohammad Riaz, BAU:Agriculturist Md. Hasan Zafir Tuhin, an alumnus of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), has recently been appointed Chairman (with the rank of Secretary) of the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA). To mark the occasion, the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology accorded him a reception.

The felicitation programme was held on Sunday (July 6) at the conference room of the Dean’s Office of the Faculty.

The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, while Professor Dr. A.K.M. Adham of the Department of Irrigation and Water Management moderated the programme.

Teachers from all departments of the faculty attended the event. Among others present were Professor Dr. Ahmad Khairul Hasan, President of the BAU Sonali Dal and a faculty member of the Department of Agronomy, along with directors of various divisions, university officers and employees.

During the programme, faculty members welcomed Agriculturist Md. Hasan Zafir Tuhin with flowers. Dean Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid later presented him with a commemorative crest in recognition of his achievement.

Speaking at the event, BMDA Chairman Agriculturist Md. Hasan Zafir Tuhin said, “At this stage of my life, I have once again been given the opportunity to work in the agricultural profession and to serve in a significant institution. My dream is that the agricultural engineering profession in Bangladesh will regain its lost prestige and become firmly established as a respected career. There was a time when agricultural education enjoyed a very high status, but over the years it has fallen somewhat behind for various reasons.”

He further said, “If the Almighty keeps me healthy and provides me with the opportunity to work on a larger scale, I will make every effort to contribute to the development of the agricultural profession. I may have many identities, but my greatest identity is that I am an agricultural engineer and an agriculturist. Enhancing the dignity of this profession means enhancing my own dignity. I want agricultural education to once again become the first choice of students. I do not wish to work only for myself; I want to work for the welfare of the country’s farmers and ordinary people. I am deeply grateful to the respected teachers who educated me. I seek your prayers so that the Almighty grants me the ability to discharge this responsibility properly.”This version follows standard English newspaper style and is ready for publication.
