Mohammad Riaz, BAU:Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) will observe World Milk Day 2026 with a two-day programme beginning on June 9, during which around 2,500 children from eight schools on and around the university campus will be provided with milk.
The university will also honour a woman dairy farmer and a woman dairy-processing entrepreneur for the first time in recognition of their contributions to the country's dairy industry.
The information was disclosed at a press conference held at the library of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry on Monday.
Speaking at the press conference, Professor Dr A.K.M. Masum said World Milk Day is observed globally on June 1 every year at the initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. This year, BAU will celebrate the occasion on June 10 through a series of programmes organised by the Department of Dairy Science in collaboration with various government and private organisations as well as dairy industries.
Describing the programme schedule, he said a painting competition for children and adolescents and a home kitchen dairy recipe competition will be held on the afternoon of June 9.
On June 10, approximately 2,500 children from eight schools located within and around the university campus will be provided milk. The day will also feature a colourful rally, an awareness seminar, a career counselling session and a prize-giving ceremony for winners of various competitions.
This year's theme has been set as "Celebrating the Contributions of Women Farmers in the Dairy Industry."
BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan will attend the seminar as the chief guest.
Among the speakers will be retired Professor Dr M.A. Samad Khan and Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam of the Department of Dairy Science, along with Professor Dr Md Abul Hashem, President of the Bangladesh Animal Husbandry Association.
Professor Dr A.K.M. Masum, Member Secretary of the organising committee, will present the keynote paper at the seminar.
