Rizwana Hasan Urges Global Unity for Sustainable Plastic Use and Zero-Carbon Future at World Environment Day Summit in South Korea

Agrilife24.com:Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, emphasized the urgent need for global commitment to sustainable plastic use and stronger international collaboration to achieve a carbon-neutral and zero-carbon development pathway.

She made these remarks during the High-Level Ministerial Roundtable for Action towards Circular Economy and World Environment Day 2025, held on 5 June in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Republic of Korea.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s dedication to environmental sustainability, the Environment Advisor affirmed the country’s willingness to work closely with international partners in advancing initiatives on effective waste and plastic management as well as forest conservation. She assured that Bangladesh will actively follow up on related projects to ensure their impact and continuity.

On the sidelines of the event, Rizwana Hasan held bilateral meetings with the Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the Vice Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation between Bangladesh and South Korea in areas such as waste management, forest restoration, and wildlife conservation. The Korean side expressed strong interest in forging long-term partnerships with Bangladesh to build a safer, greener future for coming generations.

As part of her official visit to the Republic of Korea from 3–6 June 2025, Rizwana Hasan also participated in the General Assembly of the Green Transition Initiative (GTI) and attended the Seminar on Plastic Policy and Industry.

Toufiq Islam Shatil, ndc, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea, and Mirza Shawkat Ali, Director of the Department of Environment, accompanied the Environment Advisor during the events.
