
Agrilife desk: A courtesy meeting between Dr. Md. Abdus Salam, the newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), and representatives of the NARS Scientists Association of Bangladesh (NARSAB) was held on 04 November 2025 at the BARC auditorium.
Dr. Md. Abdus Salam began his career as a Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) in 1995. He joined BARC in 2009 and has since served in several key positions, including the Planning and Evaluation Division, Support Service Unit, and Crops Division. In November 2022, he was promoted to Member Director (Crops Division). A distinguished agricultural scientist, Dr. Salam has 66 full research papers, 38 abstracts, and 20 books to his credit. He has supervised numerous postgraduate researchers and developed 11 new agricultural technologies, 6 of which have been transferred to farmers.
Scientists from 12 institutions under the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) participated in the event. During the meeting, they presented several proposals aimed at strengthening agricultural research and ensuring the welfare of scientists.
The session was presided over by Dr. Md. Mosiur Rahman, Chief Scientific Officer, BARI. A brief profile of the Executive Chairman was presented by Dr. Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, Principal Scientific Officer, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI).
Among others present were Dr. Md. Mosharraf Uddin Molla, Member Director, BARC; Dr. Md. Monir Hossain, Chief Scientific Officer, BARC; Dr. Md. Sayed Ali and Dr. A.K.M. Ziaur Rahman, Chief Scientific Officers of BARI; and senior scientists from various agricultural research institutes.
The meeting, conducted by Dr. Md. Al-Mamun, Principal Scientific Officer, BJRI, resolved that a memorandum containing scientists’ legitimate demands will be submitted to the Honorable Adviser of the Ministry of Agriculture on 05 November 2025.
Dr. Md. Sazedul Karim Sarkar, Principal Scientific Officer, Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, delivered the welcome address and expressed heartfelt thanks to the participating scientists for their cooperation and unity.
