
Agrilife24.com:Ziad Shatara, Managing Director and CEO of Robi Axiata PLC, has been elected President of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB). The election took place during AMTOB’s virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on March 11, 2026. He succeeds Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone, and will serve a two-year term beginning on 1st April.
The newly formed AMTOB Board also announced the appointment of Johan Buse, CEO of Banglalink, as Senior Vice President; Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone, as Vice President; and Nurul Mabud Chowdhury, Managing Director of Teletalk, as Director. The session was moderated by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Zulfikar (Retd), Director and Secretary General of AMTOB.
Senior officials from AMTOB member and associate member organizations actively participated in the AGM, including Abdus Salam, Country Manager of Ericsson Bangladesh; Jason Wu, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh); Taimur Rahman, CCRAO of Banglalink; Tanveer Mohammad, CCAO of Grameenphone; Shahed Alam, CCRO of Robi Axiata; and Luthfullahil Mozid, DGM of Teletalk.
Assuming his new role, Ziad Shatara said, “I look forward to leading AMTOB at a time when the mobile telecommunications sector is central to Bangladesh’s digital economy. This industry touches every individual in the country, and we are committed to shaping a smart and sustainable digital future. By working closely with regulators and industry partners, we aim to unlock the sector’s full potential to drive economic growth.”
He further added, “Our focus will be on understanding the evolving digital needs of our people and fostering an environment where innovation can thrive. Together, we will continue expanding connectivity and ensuring that our sector makes meaningful contributions to the nation’s economic progress.”
AMTOB looks forward to the leadership and collective expertise of its newly elected President and Board members as the association continues its mission to advance Bangladesh’s mobile telecommunications sector and strengthen its role in the country’s digital economy transformation.
