Agrilife24.com:Huawei has collaborated with Dhaka University, fintech industry, and ICT Division to expedite Bangladesh’s development in ICT sector. In this regard, Huawei has announced three initiatives collaborating with multiple entities.
The initiatives are focused on intelligent advancement of Bangladesh with the inspiration ‘In Bangladesh, for Bangladesh’. The first initiative is with Dhaka University to establish Intelligent Classroom. The second one is with the ICT Division to launch a Joint Innovation Lab. And the third initiative is to introduced the ‘China-Bangladesh Fintech Exchange Program’, designed for Bangladeshi financial sector experts. These initiatives were declared during the inauguration of Huawei's new office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
Pan Junfeng, President, Huawei South Asia & CEO, Huawei Bangladesh, delivered the welcome speech at the event. The event was attended by H.E. Yao Wen, Ambassador, People's Republic of China to Bangladesh; Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, Governor, Bangladesh Bank; Maj Gen Md Emdad UI Bari, OSP, NDC, PSC, TE (retd), Chairman, BTRC; Shish Haider Chowdhury, NDC, Secretary, ICT Division; Dr. Md. Mohiuddin, Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare; Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, PhD, Treasurer, University of Dhaka.
The program was enriched with the launching of ‘Bangladesh Broadband Connectivity Research Report’, prepared by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT). BTRC chairman launched the report while Wang Zhiqin, Vice President, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) joined virtually.
The report provides a comprehensive analysis of broadband development in Bangladesh. It considers existing national broadband policies, international standards, ecosystems, business scenarios, and the country's specific conditions. Through this report, the ecosystem players will get valuable insights for the future development of broadband connectivity in Bangladesh over the next 5 to 10 years.
With the first initiative, Huawei is going to contribute Intelligent Classroom to University of Dhaka by providing ICT equipment such as an Idea Hub, Access Points, and educational resources. This will enhance research capabilities and prepare future leaders to drive Bangladesh’s digital transformation.
Secondly, ICTD and Huawei will jointly establish Innovation Lab in Bangladesh. In the lab, Huawei will provide training on advanced ICT concepts and technologies to cultivate ICT professionals in Bangladesh. This partnership holds great significance for enhancing ICT innovation capabilities in Bangladesh and training ICT personnel.
Furthermore, Huawei introduced the China-Bangladesh Fintech Exchange Program, which focuses on empowering Bangladeshi financial sector experts who will visit china to join in an advanced training session on Fintech. This program aims to bridge gaps and create new opportunities for underserved communities through fintech and microfinance technologies.
H.E. Yao Wen, said, “As the world’s leading provider of ICT infrastructure, Huawei has been operating in Bangladesh for last 26 years with a down-to-earth and steady approach. It took the lead in the development of Bangladesh’s ICT industry from 2G to 5G and grew into an important digital communication equipment supplier in the country. Entering Bangladesh in 1998, it provided network devices, network construction services and mobile phones which were affordable which greatly promoted the rapid development of our ICT industry.”
Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, said, “I would like to express our gratitude to Huawei for the wise decision to support the University of Dhaka in crucial areas - creating a smart campus, providing intelligent classroom facilities. Challenges like limited expertise, outdated systems and inadequate infrastructure must be addressed. This is why Huawei’s support is so valuable.”
