
Staff correspondent: A seminar and Iftar Mahfil was held on today (7 March), at Emmanuelles Party Center in Gulshan-1, organized by The Vet Executive. The program brought together veterinary professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss critical issues in Bangladesh’s livestock and food safety sectors.
Prof. Dr. Farhad Haleem Donar, Advisor to the Chairperson of BNP and Executive Director of ZRF, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Special Guests included Kbd. Anwarunnabi Majumdar Babla, Director of ZRF, and Dr. Md. Bayzer Rahman, Director (Admin) of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS). The event was chaired by Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim Miah, President of The Vet Executive, while Dr. Mohammad Al Amin, Secretary General of the organization & Kbd. Dr. H.M Nazmul Haqconducted the program as anchor.
The keynote paper titled “Ensuring Food Safety: Opportunity and Barriers of Bangladesh's Dairy, Meat and Poultry Sector” was presented by Prof. Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).
In his presentation, he highlighted the growing importance of food safety in the dairy, meat, and poultry industries and discussed both the opportunities for development and the barriers that hinder progress. He emphasized the need for stronger regulatory frameworks, improved veterinary services, better farm management practices, and enhanced collaboration between government, academia, and industry stakeholders to ensure safe and sustainable animal-source food production in Bangladesh.
The seminar concluded with discussions among participants followed by the Iftar Mahfil.
